Description The College of Agricultural, Life, and Physical Sciences is seeking to fill the position of Academic Advisor I to provide crucial support in the education and decision making process for undergraduate students. The Advisor will assist students in developing an educational plan, provide them with the knowledge necessary to understand requirements related to their degree, registration process. The target salary offer for this position is $2,438.00 to $3,084.00 monthly, the full pay range for this position is $29,256.00 to $37,008.00 annually. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. Examples of Duties
  1. Promote an inclusive environment in which all people are valued, supported, and respected.
  2. Establish a unique relationship with each student that focuses on interests, abilities, and values that facilitate career decision-making during the academic advisement process.
  3. Assist students in developing an educational plan that relates to their choice of degree program.
  4. Assist students in gaining a basic understanding of degree requirements, the registration process, and processes that need to be completed by the student.
  5. Have a working knowledge of the degree requirements and prerequisites needed for the degree programs assigned.
  6. Have a working knowledge of the University Core Curriculum requirements and how it is tailored to the degree programs assigned.
  7. Refer students to appropriate campus offices and support programs in response to their academic and personal needs.
  8. Utilize Degree Works and the Student Educational Planner (SEP) to monitor and track student progress towards degree, including University Core Curriculum, Major, and Degree Requirements.
  9. Utilize student information systems to view and interpret/evaluate student records, analyze test scores and prerequisite requirements for course placement, submit petition requests for course substitutions, process course overrides, complete registration forms, assist students with course registration and navigating holds on their account, monitor academic success progress, and run registration reports.
  10. Utilize Slate and Outlook platforms to communicate with students, document student interactions, promote awareness of important deadlines, and encourage students to schedule and attend regular advisement appointments.
  11. Teach students how to use Degree Works as a degree audit tool in order to track progress toward a degree and how to perform "what-if" scenarios in order to explore other degree options.
  12. Work with the College's Recruitment and Retention team to welcome prospective/incoming students and their supporters during New Student Orientations and program Preview Days.
  13. Maintain academic advising communications and records in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  14. Maintain compliance with all mandatory training program requirements.
  15. Participate in professional development programs, advisement meetings, technology and professional development workshops as assigned.
  16. Coordination of receiving and distributing syllabi for articulation consideration.
  17. Perform other tasks as needed and/or assigned to enhance services of Academic Advisement and support the institutional mission.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Master's degree
  2. Experience within a postsecondary environment; such as academic advising, mentoring, or counseling undergraduate students or closely related experience.
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills
