Job Description
The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
JOB SUMMARY :
Provides communications and organizational skills in admitting hospital patients, and in ensuring identification and capture of all entitlements due the institution and its physicians in compensation for provided services.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Coordinates pre-admissions.
Establishes electronic accounts on patients.
Coordinates patient assignment for patients admitted via clinics, Trauma Center, Transfer Center, Day Surgery, etc.
Manages inter-hospital transfer waiting list.
Screens all admissions for medical justification against Texas Medical Foundation criteria for acute care and assists the physician in selecting the most appropriate/cost effective treatment modality.
Serves as information resource for patients, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Finalizes patient discharge from hospital.
Coordinates patient transfers between divisions, services, and admit types.
Makes admission process decisions during off hours and on weekends.
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for department.
Performs related duties as required.
EQUIPMENT :
Standard office equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Standard hospital, clinical and/or office environment.
Must be able to work under stress in emergencies and be emotionally capable of coping with complex situations.
Must be flexible to accommodate seven-day round-the-clock coverage.
