Job Title
ASC Student Success Coach
Position Summary
Success Coaches help students identify barriers to academic success and assist them in creating action plans for overcoming those challenges. Success Coaches help students maximize their potential for academic success by supporting them holistically and by assisting them in gaining effective strategies and behaviors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Work collaboratively with their assigned Academic Advisor and Academic Coach to
respond to academic alerts, manage cases, and assist with other caseload campaigns and interventions for a specific population of students
• Work one-on-one with students to identify and overcome barriers to their academic
success
- Assess students' current practices and make suggestions for improvement
- Provide individualized outreach to students based on identified risk factors including
academic and socio-emotional
• Utilize and interpret various assessment tools to develop and employ interpersonal
communication skills including: face-to-face communication, email etiquette, and service
referral strategies
• Assist in the design and facilitation of academic success workshops, interventions and
programs aimed at facilitating success in college
• Generate reports and utilize data to discern patterns of success/difficulty and design
strategic interventions
• Demonstrate effective academic success strategies and provide accountability
partnerships
• Attend success coach organizational meetings, workshops, trainings and development
courses as required
• Partner and work cooperatively with university staff, faculty, and administration
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Experience
Minimum 15 hours course work completed at TXWES.
Minimum GPA of 3.0
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office products - emphasis on Excel. Sort/count/sum/function data, chart wizard, converting spreadsheets, and manage lists in spreadsheets or web pages using
Exhibit patience and positive attitudes in the learning environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to instruct others
Demonstrate knowledge in assisting students with study strategies
Effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success
Strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and maintain records in an orderly manner.
Ability to work independently in the most efficient manner with minimum supervision.
Ability to be discrete in handling confidential matters, while complying with privacy regulations.
Ability to maintain a professional appearance and office atmosphere.
Ability to take initiative to recognize and foresee needs.
Ability to support and adhere to University and departmental policies and procedures.
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, while meeting deadlines.
