Job Description

This position is responsible for conducting in-depth background investigations of applicant's personal histories seeking employment with the Department of Correction. It involves interviewing past employers, references, and others to gather information on the applicant's suitability for the job. The role requires proficiency in law enforcement computer applications like DELJIS, CJIS, NCIC, and LEISS, and entails providing detailed written reports of findings and recommendations.

Preferred Qualification

  • Ten years experience as a Certified Police Officer.

Essential Functions

  • Conducts investigations of alleged or probable violations or compliance issues by obtaining, verifying, and analyzing relevant information.
  • Collects, controls, and evaluates evidence such as physical, financial, and background records.
  • Formulates questions and conducts interviews to obtain information and ascertain facts.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Makes judgments and recommends actions based on available facts.
  • Uses automated information systems and software to research, document, and report on investigative data.
  • Documents all interactions during investigations and may respond to hotlines.
  • Prepares and submits comprehensive investigative reports documenting findings and actions taken.
  • Testifies and presents evidence before various bodies or courts.
  • Delivers customer service to internal and external parties.
  • Interacts effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • May conduct surveillance and undercover investigations, and may make arrests or obtain search warrants.
  • May recommend subpoenas for information.

Job Requirements

  • One year experience in planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing investigations.
  • Two years experience in conducting investigations, including gathering evidence and documenting findings.
  • Two years experience in analyzing information to make recommendations on violations of laws or regulations.
  • One year experience in civil, criminal, or administrative proceedings, including providing testimony or managing cases.

Additional Posting Information

This is a Casual/Seasonal position, non-pension eligible without healthcare or other benefits.

Conditions of Hire

Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S., undergo pre-employment drug testing, and a satisfactory criminal background check. A two-step tuberculin skin test may also be required.
