Buyer – Metals Manufacturing
A well-established metals manufacturer is seeking a Buyer to join its dynamic supply chain team. This is a I wanted to reach out about a direct hire, permanent role and his individual will play a key role in ensuring the efficient procurement of raw materials, components, and services needed to support production operations. This is a critical position for someone who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and has a strong background in metals sourcing.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and purchase goods and services in alignment with production and operational needs, balancing cost, quality, and delivery timelines.
- Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements with both long-term and short-term suppliers to optimize cost savings.
- Monitor supplier performance and maintain effective relationships through in-person and virtual meetings.
- Identify and qualify alternative suppliers to improve reliability, cost, and quality.
- Track market trends and supply chain disruptions to ensure continuity and competitiveness in sourcing.
- Issue RFQs/RFPs, evaluate proposals, and select the most appropriate suppliers.
- Maintain inventory levels according to organizational goals and proactively address delivery or quality issues.
- Address and resolve issues related to shipment discrepancies, delivery delays, quantity changes, and pricing errors.
- Participate in strategic initiatives aimed at improving purchasing efficiency and reducing total cost of ownership.
- Stay current with changes in materials markets and manufacturing technologies that could impact sourcing.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation in alignment with company standards.
- Occasionally travel to supplier sites or host vendor visits at company facilities.
Qualifications
- More then three years of relevant experience in a purchasing or supply chain role, ideally sourcing raw metals.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Purchasing, or a related field preferred (relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
- Strong working knowledge of inventory control, MRP systems, and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and vendor management skills.
- Ability to assess cost drivers, analyze trends, and make data-driven purchasing decisions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a sense of urgency in meeting production needs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with ERP/MRP tools.
