Position Title: Die Designer
Reports To: Design Supervisor
Position Summary:
The Die Designer develops designs for single-stage or progressive dies for stamping and forming metal parts to meet customer specifications. They create a uniform CAD database for die components using current CAD software.
Essential Job Functions:
- Preparation: Understands estimates, customer PO, die specifications, press requirements, and part print specifications.
- Design Review: Collaborates with Project Manager and Estimator to formulate a design plan.
- Coordination: Aligns design schedules with Project Manager to meet delivery dates.
- Preliminary Layout: Creates CAD layouts including plan view, section views, die component materials, press mounting info, sensors, stock width, progression, thickness, and tryout material requests.
- Final Design: Reviews preliminary design, creates final layout, and coordinates CAD database for die construction.
- Consultation: Works with team leaders in CNC, CNC Programming, WEDM, and Grind for manufacturing methods.
- Revision Management: Documents part print revisions and coordinates tooling changes with Project Manager and Estimator.
- Bill of Materials: Creates and monitors material costs.
- Development Coordination: Manages die development with Project Manager.
- Documentation: Keeps records of labor time and updates CAD database before shipment.
- Progress Reports: Generates and sends progress reports with Salesperson when required
Job Qualification Requirements:
- Training and Experience: 4+ years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship in tool and die making.
- Skills: Computer literacy, knowledge of Microsoft Office, Job Shop Control Software, Estimating software, and Quotation Database software.
- Licenses: Valid Tennessee Driver's License.
