Job Title: EHS Intern

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Department: Environment Health & Safety

Reports to Title: Senior EHS Manager

Position Summary

The EHS Intern will gain hands-on experience in occupational safety within a dynamic manufacturing environment. This role is designed to support the EHS team in enhancing workplace safety culture, improving compliance processes, and driving engagement in safety initiatives. The intern will take on meaningful projects that contribute to both professional development and organizational safety goals while working alongside line-level employees and floor leadership.

Responsibilities

The intern will work on a variety of safety-related initiatives, including:

Routine Safety Functions:

• Conducting safety walkthroughs to identify and address potential hazards.
• Assisting with employee onboarding and training, reinforcing safety policies and procedures.

Process Improvement & Compliance:

• Digitizing, updating and organizing safety files, ensuring documentation aligns with regulatory and company standards.
• Developing and auditing Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to enhance risk identification and control measures.
• Reviewing and improving Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for enhanced safety in equipment maintenance.

Engagement & Culture Initiatives:

• Collaborating with floor leadership and employees to increase participation in the Safety Committee and enhance overall engagement.
• Assisting in the development of safety communication strategies, including training materials, toolbox talks, and digital resources.

Learning & Development Opportunities

• Exposure to OSHA regulations and compliance requirements in a real-world setting.
• Experience conducting risk assessments and safety audits.
• Training in SafetyChain software (if applicable) and exposure to industry safety documentation practices.
• Opportunity to develop leadership and communication skills through direct engagement with employees and committees..

Qualifications

• Preferred Fields of Study: Occupational Safety & Health, Business, Data Analytics, Industrial Engineering, or IT (depending on candidate background).
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective communication skills for working with employees at all levels, including floor leadership.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative on projects.
• Bilingual skills in Spanish or Malayalam preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work is performed in a manufacturing and office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. Must be able to lift 50lb and must have knowledge of computers and be proficient in word and Excel.
