Job Description
Overview:
We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy civil and utility construction projects. This role is ideal for someone who wants to gain hands-on experience with self-perform work in utilities, site development, paving, and infrastructure while working closely with project managers, superintendents, and field crews. The Project Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and quality across all phases of construction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in project planning, scheduling, and budgeting for heavy civil, site, and utility projects.
- Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and contracts to ensure compliance.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal field teams to maintain project timelines.
- Prepare RFIs, submittals, material take-offs, and other project documentation.
- Track quantities, production, and cost reports to support project controls and forecasting.
- Monitor field operations to ensure quality, safety, and efficiency are maintained.
- Support project managers and superintendents with day-to-day tasks, problem-solving, and client communications.
- Participate in meetings with clients, owners, inspectors, and subcontractors.
- Ensure accurate closeout documentation including as-builts, O&M manuals, and punch list completion.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1–4 years of experience in heavy civil construction (internship or full-time).
- Strong understanding of civil/utility construction practices, drawings, and specifications.
- Proficiency with construction technology tools (AutoCAD, Bluebeam, scheduling software, Microsoft Office).
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
