About the Company - We're partnering with a growing international bank headquartered in New York City that is looking to appoint an Assistant Vice President – Legal Counsel to support legal and contractual matters across the organization. This is a key role within the bank’s in-house legal team, offering broad exposure to financial services regulations, transactional work, and legal risk advisory.

About the Role - This is a hands-on, strategic legal position responsible for reviewing and drafting a wide variety of contracts and advising internal departments on legal and regulatory risks. You'll support the bank’s business lines and special projects while working cross-functionally with risk, compliance, and external counsel. The role offers meaningful scope across commercial agreements, regulatory risk, and legal advisory functions, reporting into senior legal leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, policies, and other legal documents.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on legal risk, rights, and obligations across a variety of transactions.
  • Conduct legal risk assessments for new products, services, and business initiatives.
  • Collaborate with compliance and operational teams on cross-border legal issues and regulatory reviews.
  • Liaise with and manage external counsel, offering internal second opinions and strategic oversight.
  • Assist in drafting or revising internal legal policies and governance frameworks.

Qualifications

  • JD or LLM from an accredited U.S. law school
  • Licensed to practice law in New York State (or another U.S. jurisdiction with ability to register in NY)
  • Minimum 5 years of legal experience with a focus on contract review, legal risk, or financial services
  • Experience working in-house at a bank, financial institution, or law firm supporting financial clients
