Job Title: Retail Store Manager
Location: San Diego, CA 92110
Salary: $5,720 – $5,950/month + excellent benefits (medical, dental, vision, retirement contributions, paid time off, campus fitness access)
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours/week, flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Retail Store Manager to oversee operations for a high-traffic campus retail store offering apparel, emblematic merchandise, gifts, and technology products. This leader will manage buying, merchandising, inventory, promotions, and staff development to deliver an exceptional shopping experience to students, faculty, alumni, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Lead daily retail operations, ensuring exceptional customer service and efficient processes
Oversee apparel, emblematic, and gift buying; maintain vendor relationships and negotiate terms
Manage inventory levels, open-to-buy, pricing, and merchandising strategies
Supervise, schedule, and train sales associates and support staff
Plan promotions, sales events, and product launches in coordination with leadership
Ensure compliance with branding, licensing, and quality standards
Maintain an organized, attractive, and fully stocked sales floor
Monitor financial performance, analyze sales data, and implement improvement strategies
Manage controllable costs to maximize profitability
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience considered
Minimum 5 years of retail management experience
Strong background in apparel and emblematic merchandise buying
Knowledge of open-to-buy planning, gross margin calculations, and inventory management
Proficient with POS systems, inventory software, and e-commerce platforms
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to merchandise a variety of products in a clean, creative, and appealing way
Flexible schedule availability for seasonal peaks, events, and inventory
