Salary: $22 - $32 DOE

Job Title: Shop Mechanic (Heavy Equipment and Light Vehicle)

Reports to: Shop Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will assist with preventative maintenance and repairs of diesel equipment in the shop to make electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic repairs on equipment such as excavators, loaders, trenchers, forklifts, and more.

Supervisory responsibilities:

None

Duties/Responsibilities:

• 
  Perform electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical repairs as well as preventative maintenance.
• 
  Troubleshoot issues with diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and other components.
• 
  Determine what parts and tools are necessary to make repairs.
• 
  Complete shop paperwork
• 
  Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Thorough understanding of practices involved in the use of various types of heavy equipment.
• Thorough understanding of maintenance and basic repairs associated with heavy equipment.
• Thorough understanding of safety rules and ability to safely operate machinery.
• Superior skill operating assigned equipment safely and efficiently.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Excellent time management skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize and delegate appropriately.

Education and Experience:

• 
  High school diploma or equivalent with at least five years of relevant experience.
• 
  Workplace safety practices.
• 
  Valid Drivers license.
• 
  CDL preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• 
  Able to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
• 
  Post-secondary, degree, or training a plus.
• 
  Must be able to lift 60 pounds at a time.
